Summary Scores for Articulate

Articulate has been around the top of the board game bestseller lists for ages now so we thought it was about time we tested it out. First problem was that as a family of 4 with children aged 9 and 11 both children were below the recommended minimum age of 12. Our solution was to let the children pick a category from the card rather than restricting them to the category that the counter landed on. This seemed to work well and even the 9 year old could always find something she could describe.

The game is played by splitting into two teams and one member from each team describing a word from the card which the rest of the team have to guess. Describe as many words in the allotted time as you can. It’s a familiar format but works brilliantly well. The added twist of the spinner categories and the chance to jump ahead etc. add some extra excitement. Ideally you would play this in a large group - two larger teams rather than several smaller teams would work best.

All in all, highly recommended for families with slightly older children but that is not to say that families with younger children cannot adapt it a little to make it work. It certainly generates a lot of fun.
